Project Overview

The Broadway Market, a 200-year-old Baltimore landmark, was transformed into a contemporary community eatery housing local vendors and varied interior and exterior gathering spaces. As one of the longest continuously operating public markets systems in the country, the Baltimore Public Markets Corporation sought to reestablish the prominence of the market space by rethinking how people shop, eat, and interact in the city.

The project involved the complete renovation of the existing brick structure by reinstating the blocked-in arches to let natural light in the space, as well as renovating the north addition into a contemporary wood-clad structure that contrasts the existing historic context of the Fells Point neighborhood. The introduction of an outdoor patio and bar energize the previously vacant block and serve as the community living room while the operable arched openings provide a direct connection between the market and the surrounding businesses. Food and furnishings at Broadway Market embody the work of a creative community of local chefs, makers, artists and entrepreneurs who engage actively in reimagining Baltimore.

American Cedar & Millwork is proud to have provided the Marvin aluminum clad, outswing doors and round top transoms with exterior flat casings custom fitted into the existing radius masonry openings.

About Us

Since 1998, Plano-Coudon has been a trusted contractor providing design-build, construction management and general contracting services to private, public and non-profit clients. Brett Plano and Ryan Coudon founded Plano-Coudon in 1998. They recognized a need in the industry to bring the mindset of engineers, the sophistication of large contractors and the passion of true building enthusiasts to mid-range construction projects. Our company’s initial setup was modest – just two desks, two computers and one pet dog in the basement of Brett’s Federal Hill home. Today, we employ over 95 professionals with deep expertise across all major market segments including healthcare, life sciences, mission-critical, industrial, retail, office, multi-family and religious/non-profit. We specialize in both large scale and small projects. In 2010, we created a Small Projects Division to provide dedicated and expert service to smaller projects across all market segments.
